Bookniture furniture Take anywhere and Hidden inside a book
Putting the fan into fiction, Bookniture is the take anywhere furniture that’s hidden inside a book.
When is a chair not a chair? When it’s a fold-away form of furniture made of carefully constructed cardboard. Not a rib-tickler by any stretch of the imagination but mighty ingenious nonetheless.
Combining an advanced origami structure with traditional book-binding, it unfolds in the blink of an eye from a large tome to a piece of multifunctional furniture. It can be a stool, a foot rest, a nightstand or a standing work desk. What else? Stack them up and make a table & chair set; add a wooden board on top of two to make a bench; stack a few more layers and it becomes a shelf! The possibilities with Bookniture are endless*
The secret is its unique honeycomb structure. Made of recyclable kraft paper, the 7-inch by 13-inch by 1.6-inch book concertinas out to 14 times its original size, like a stationery Transformer! And its inventor claims it can support up to a ton or 700 times its own weight. Neodymium magnets hold the covers together when it’s in ‘furniture’ mode to prevent it closing.
Designed to be light and portable so you can take it anywhere, this folding chair is also great as an emergency stool when one too many friends pop round. And of course you can just pop it back on the shelf once they leave.
So, when is a book not a book? When it’s a chair!
